ZORN DOES KATHURIA
"ZORN: Speaking of security issues, there's a strong contingent of gun-rights advocates in Illinois, particularly downstate. What will you tell them about your position on concealed carry?
KATHURIA: One of the tenets of Sikhism in the old days was that we were to protect the rights of others so we were to carry a little small sword, not to protect ourselves but to protect innocent people. This is basically concealed carry, and it's an idea I'm obviously open to.
But why are there are 10,000 handgun killings in the US every year? In Canada there are only 50 to 60? I believe that if anyone uses a handgun for the wrong reason he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
ZORN: .Well, why do we have so many gun killings?
KATHURIA: That is a rhetorical question that deserves consideration but does not account for a very different level of criminal activity and population density. I don't believe that the availability of handguns in the U.S. is causal with an increase in crime.
ZORN: How do you feel about background checks?
KATHURIA: We're open to quick background and security checks. The instant background check at gun shows and shops that can determine if a person has a criminal past or has a history of mental health problems should be enforced. I do support personal protection legislation that would allow an individual, with training and a clear background check, to carry a concealed gun. I would not support any other new gun laws, just enforce the ones on the books currently."

SENATE CANDIDATE KATHURIA SPEAKS
Read all three Illinois Leader Interviews (scroll down for parst 1 and 2) with this most articulate candidate.
"IL: So, what is your position on the Second Amendment?
KATHURIA: This is a good thing to report. Sikhs have been guarding America’s interests for over a decade. 85,000 Sikhs died in WW1 and WW2 and the first Sikhs served in 1819 in the US Army. One of the things that we are supposed to keep is a weapon to protect other people and protect the rights of other people.
I remember when we were at one of the debates, somewhere obviously where they were very definitely pro-Second Amendment, I remember one of the guys got up and said, 'You're our man.'
IL: It is my understanding that Sikhs conceal a knife in their turbans. Do you carry a knife?
KATHURIA: No, this is more ceremonial. . . We ought to understand that there should be limited background checks and you don’t want people to misuse guns for the wrong reasons. If someone violates the law, they should be punished to the full extent of the law.
IL: What is your position on the Second Amendment?
KATHURIA: Laws on the books protect everyone the way they are. If you want to change the Constitution, you have to start looking at changing every amendment, and then you are going back. The Constitution is a document that’s been the founding of America and that’s why it is one of the best countries in the world.
If you start going through and changing the things that the fore-fathers believed in, then you are going to upset the way American culture, the way the economy and everything is. We are basically pro-Constitution, pro-2nd amendment, we figure there are enough rights on the books today."

DO CHICAGOANS FEEL A "RIGHT TO EXPECT ABSOLUTE SAFETY WITHIN THEIR HOMES"?
Recently I've been reviewing the various self defense laws of different states. I moved from Chicago to Arizona, in part, to be able to regain my right to self protection. I've found that many states uphold a person's right to be secure in his home or in public. We've all heard of the "Brady law", well how about the "Make My Day Law"! No Joke! Colorado recently converted to "shall issue" CCW. Sounds like another nice state to live in. Think Illinois will ever make your day?
From Colorado Revised Statutes:
18-1-704.5 Use Of Deadly Physical Force Against An Intruder (“Make My Day law”)
1. The general assembly hereby recognizes that the citizens of Colorado have a right to expect absolute safety
within their own homes.
2. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 18-1-704, any occupant of a dwelling is justified in using any
degree of physical force, including deadly physical force, against another person when that other person has
made an unlawful entry into the dwelling, and when the occupant has a reasonable belief that such other person
has committed a crime in the dwelling in addition to the uninvited entry, or is committing or intends to commit
a crime against a person or property in addition to the uninvited entry, and when the occupant reasonably
believes that such other person might use any physical force, no matter how slight, against any occupant.
3. Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including deadly physical force, in accordance with the
provisions or subsection (2) of this section shall be immune from criminal prosecution for the use of such force.
4. Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including deadly physical force, in accordance with the
provisions of subsection (2) of this section shall be immune from any civil liability for injuries or death
resulting from the use of such force.

ERIC ZORN NOT HAPPY ABOUT REPORTERS HAVING TO BE LICENSED
We like EZ, so it hurts to say this, but now reporters know how gun owners feel. We want to express a fundamental right and the government makes us get a license (FOID.) Now the government wants to license reporters. Too bad, so sad. We should have stuck together. Note Eric is one of the good guys. Below is from his BLOG

BADGES? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGES
The Chicago Headline Club reports on its site about recent negotiations between "representatives of every major television, radio and print news organization in Chicago" and the Chicago Police Department over the "technical concerns regarding the fingerprinting of journalists who seek Chicago Police media credentials."
Reporters use credentials issued by law enforcement to gain "access to the perimeter of crime scenes, mayoral news conferences at City Hall, police headquarters, and Chicago's 911 Center."
The fingerprinting doesn't concern me nearly as much as the whole idea of what amounts to government "licensing" of journalists.
Media organizations should issue their own credentials to their own reporters, then work with government to help officials spot counterfeit or expired credentials. Perhaps organizations such as the Headline Club could help large and small media outlets coordinate and standardize these credentials.
The important thing is to bring the credentialing process under the aegis of the press and take it away from the police. And I don't say this simply because I want to use the word "aegis" in print.
Instead of nibbling around the edges and quibbling over details, Chicago journalists should go on an ID strike and leave their police credentials at home.
One mayoral news conference without any reporters present would prompt major changes in this area.

BLACKS IN CHICAGO ORGANIZING TO GET THERE GUN RIGHTS BACK
Hello friends,
I am starting up a gun club out here in Ilinois called the Tenth Calvary Gun Club Chicago chapter. This club is a chapter of the Tenth Calvary Gun Club http://www.tenthcavalrygunclub.org/ which resides in Washington DC, Baltimore, and New Jersey. The origonal organizer is Kenn Blanchard http://blackmanwithagun.com . I am sending this info out because I am interested in people who are interested in firearms; the reasons can vary from collecting, hunting, target shooting, personal protection or just want to know more about them, like I was when I started. If you or anyone you may know is interested in joining up please respond to this post. As of right now, I am organizing people and the club to be a networking club, but when we get enough people interested and joined we can do other activities which can benefit the black community.
When people think normally of black people with guns people are conditioned to be afraid and our leaders make us think that guns are the problem when it isn't the law abiding people with guns, but the criminals and criminal intent that are the problem. A lot of people don't know about the Deacons of Defense and the other civil rights groups that did not use the pacifist approach in the Civil Rights movement. To be organized and use your second ammendment rights is to continue in that tradition. A tradition which we weren't always given the right to use.
If anyone is interested in firearms training, I know the name of an NRA instructor who trains people on the proper techniques of shooting. I was trained by him and he is a great instructor.

DC Sniper Anniversary Brings Call for More Gun Control -- 10/02/2003
I find it amazing how the liberal elites don't want you to defend yourself and to make their point, they can get away with lies and misrepresent the facts to try to get their way.
Speaking about the sniper shootings Wednesday, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) became so angry over the prospect that Congress might not extend a ban on military-looking semi-automatic rifles, commonly referred to by the misnomer "assault weapons," that she was almost yelling.
"Now we've been to memorials, we've been to candlelight ceremonies, we've prayed, we sang hymns, we said we would never forget these victims," Mikulski said, "and I'll tell you how we'll never forget them: We've got to pass this assault weapons ban."
All together now....let's all sing and hold hands. That'll show those evil-doers & gang-bangers! We really mean business now! HALLELUJAH BROTHERS & SISTERS !!!

COP BACKS COP IN SUN TIMES LETTER
If gun owners stuck together like the cops do we wouldn't be considered as routine felons. I don't agree with Officer Chibe below, but he does set a good example of the power of unity.
Who's he to second-guess?
Send James Fyfe back to Mayberry -- oh, I'm sorry; that was Barney. What I'm getting at is the news story Sept. 24 [''Police training expert blames cop in Russ death''], wherein Fyfe was said to be an expert witness in the death of Robert Russ in the lawsuit against Chicago Police Officer Van Watts IV and the city.
In his testimony, Fyfe was quick to lay everything on training and Watts, and nothing on reality. He says Watts didn't follow his training. Well, I was nowhere near this incident, nor, I'm sure, was Fyfe almost four years ago, but Officer Watts was.
Officer Watts, in my guess from being an officer for almost 14 years, probably had about 4 milliseconds to decide if he was going home on that fateful night. Officers do what needs to be done to protect the citizens of this city day in and day out, without question.
Not every situation can be scripted in a training bulletin or, for that matter, be criticized so finitely by a so-called expert witness. Fyfe is said to be a deputy superintendent of training from the New York Police Department. I'd be willing to lay odds that he never took down a resisting offender in his police career -- that is, assuming that he is a sworn officer -- and if I'm wrong, I'm willing to bet it's been many, many years since he has done so.

I HAVE A REALLY GREAT IDEA FOR PROTECTION IN ILLINOIS!!!!!!
If every one gets together on this idea why don't we all ban together until the state of Illinois does more about protecting our citizens start making our cites and government protect us by every time we need something from the store or the mall or just driving to work or working out in our front yard call our local city, county, state police deptments and tell them that we need their undivided attention and to come with us each and every person that wants to be able to carry a concealed weapon for our protection.
That we want them to be right by our sides to protect us since we the people of Illinois are not able to be responsible enough to carry a firearm for our protection. Since we pay their salaries they are supposed to be their for you.
THE POLICE, COUNTY AND STATE POLICE ARE THEIR FOR
TO SERVE AND PROTECT. THAT IS THEIR MATO ON EACH AND EVERY VEHICLE THEY DRIVE
I FEEL THAT WOULD BE A FAIR SOLUTION DON'T YOU.

On Thursday, October 2nd, join us in a nationwide call-in day to support the federal Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003 (S. 1431/H.R. 2038) by contacting your members of Congress.
Call your Congressional representatives and senators on October 2nd, 2003 and urge them to support this important legislation to keep assault weapons off our streets.
For more information about assault weapons, go to www.underassault.org.
Dear friend,
This week marks the one-year anniversary of the sniper shootings that terrorized the citizens of Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia last October.
We are writing to ask you to take a few minutes tomorrow (Thursday, October 2nd) to call your U.S. Senators and Representatives to ask them to support the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003 (S 1431 and HR 2038).
As many of you know already, the federal Assault Weapons Ban, passed in 1994, expires in September 2004 unless Congress and the President re-authorize the legislation. ICHV is working with a national coalition to RE-AUTHORIZE AND STRENGTHEN the Assault Weapons Ban. We must strengthen the current ban because the gun industry has done everything in its power to skirt it by producing slightly modified clones of assault weapons that were banned by name under the 1994 law.
Last year's horrific sniper attacks exemplify why the Assault Weapons Ban needs to be re-authorized and strengthened this year. The gun used in those attacks, the Bushmaster XM-15, is a clone of an assault rifle that was specifically banned under the 1994 law--the Colt AR-15. This is just one of many examples of how the gun industry has been skirting the law for the past 10 years.
Please take a moment to call your members of Congress on Thursday and ask them to support the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003, H.R. 2038 in the House, introduced by Representatives Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and John Conyers (D-MI). The Senate companion bill is S.1431, introduced by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).
We have included the contact information for Senators Durbin and Fitzgerald, as well as the website address for the US House of Representatives.
Please call on Thursday, October 2nd, and urge your Senators to support S 1431 and your House members to co-sponsor and support HR 2038.

IS THE I$RA SELLING LAND?
It is a curiousity. A little bird sent us the following advertisement from the Outdoor Notebook, August 2003.
PLENTY OF DEER AND PHEASANT
For Sale 160 acres in Ford County, Illinois. This land located Southwest of Piper City has abundant deer and pheasants. I am asking $3500 per acre minimum bid. For more information call Richard Pearson: 815 635-3198
Well Richard Pearson is the President of the I$RA and the phone number is the number to the I$RA World HQ in Chatsworth, IL. The minimum value of the sale is $560,000. This could be I$RA land, but I doubt it. If it is then it just goes to show how much they need to raise money.
On the other hand I suspect this land sale has to do with the case of Ideal Insurance v. Pearson in the 18th Judicial Circuit case number 00L 01143.
Seems the Plaintiffs allege Mr. Pearson sold them his clients but after taking the cash, Mr. Pearson continued to sell to those same clients. That cost Ideal a bundle and they are looking for about $650K plus costs from Mr. Pearson. I'll try to find out how the case is going but Mr. Pearson never ceases to amaze for his gift for getting into messes involving the improper use of others money.
Of course I am sure the I$RA treasury is off limits to such allegations.

ONCE AGAIN, DALEY DECEIVES...WAKE UP CHICAGO
Monday would have been an opportune day to be a criminal in downtown Chicago if you were smart enough to steer clear of the area around Soldier Field.
That's because significant numbers of police were reassigned from their regular duties to work the Chicago Bears game.
"They want policemen to direct traffic. That's ridiculous," Daley told reporters last week, referring to the Fraternal Order of Police's effort to block off-duty police from doing the work that on-duty police officers had performed in the past for better pay. "The cost factor [is enormous]. They should be out solving crime. That's what we pay them for, right? Ask the people. We have gangs, drugs. [Those are] real issues. That's the old way."

ILLINOIS' PRIORITIES ARE SCREWED UP
From the letters to the editor, Daily Herald, Oct. 01, 2003
On Sept. 11, the state of Missouri became the 36th state to pass a law to allow the concealed-carry of handguns by law-abiding citizens for self-defense. On this date, Missouri also passed a law requiring a 24-hour waiting period before obtaining an abortion. In Illinois, there is a waiting period to purchase a self-defense handgun and no waiting period to obtain an abortion.
Illinois is one of five states where the right to concealed-carry is infringed/nonissue. There are nine states where the right to concealed-carry is restricted/very limited issue.
Illinois protects convicted violent criminals from the death penalty and unconvicted violent criminals from law-abiding gun-owning victims. Illinois protects the rights of violent criminals and does not protect the rights of unborn children. Political priorities in Illinois are confusing.

Money can't save Bush
[Re: ''Bush here to raise $3.5 million for campaign,'' metro story, Sept. 30:] Three million Chicago dollars raised, three million American jobs lost -- both are historic records for President Bush. The real question this presents us: Can all of these media dollars make America forget all those lost jobs?
Working people in Illinois will not soon forget the 201,000 jobs we have lost since Bush took office.
Small businesses in Illinois will not forget the 123,600 manufacturing jobs we have lost since Bush brought his brand of compassionate conservatism to America.
Illinois taxpayers will not forget Bush's unfunded school mandates in his No Child Left Behind Act -- a program that costs our schools millions as they struggle to provide quality education.
And Illinois families will not soon forget the costly, dangerous occupation of Iraq that Bush has obligated American families and taxpayers to bear.
There's not enough spin in Washington or enough dollars in the president's campaign coffers to cover up the failures of the Bush administration.

BATFE SAYS HOOSIERS BIG SOURCE OF GUNS IN IL...FBI BACKGROUND CHECKS NOW MANDATORY
Northwest Indiana News
Gun customers face scrutiny
FBI background checks will be mandatory starting today
Northwest Indiana residents carrying state gun permits will encounter more red tape and possible delays today at gun stores.
The Indiana State Police said gun dealers now must run FBI background checks on all gun customers, including the more than 320,000 Hoosiers with a license to carry handguns.
The gun permits, which provided a shortcut for gun purchases, vanished because the state failed to authorize money to continue its own nationwide computer background network, said Anthony Brown, a specialist in the state police Indiana Criminal History section.
Dealers said the new system will create more work for them, but don't expect the delays to be significant. Law enforcement officials said the more restrictive system will better ensure felons and other persons barred from carrying weapons will not slip through the system.
"I think it's a good idea," said Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds. "It provides another safeguard for the public."
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has identified Indiana as one of the states where weapons flow freely to states like Illinois with stronger firearms restrictions.
The bureau also reports that 1.2 percent of all licensed gun dealers end up supplying 57 percent of all firearms recovered from criminals, and of those, two of the top 25 dealers nationwide are in Northwest Indiana.
A large number of those weapons are smuggled to Chicago, where they end up in the streets, alleys and cars of Chicago gang members, officials said. Chicago and 19 other Illinois communities ban the ownership of handguns, and the rest of Illinois severely limits their use.........

Ottawa report blasts gun registry
Unreliable data threaten key screening goal of program
Edmonton Journal
OTTAWA - An internal Justice Department report on the firearms program cites major weaknesses in the ability of the gun registry to provide crucial information to firearms officers and police.
The report says one of the chief goals of the program -- continual screening to make sure gun owners remain eligible for licences -- is threatened by unreliable information contained in a massive database that is supposed to tip police and the Canada Firearms Centre to individuals who should not own firearms.
Nothing like spending tons "O" money for a useless program that intrudes on ones' privacy.

MORE FROM MISSOURI PROSECUTOR
We emailed Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle to see if he would prosecute a cop who was behaving badly with a gun as they surely won't prosecute in Chicago. We were concerned might be one rule for cops and another for CCW holders. Here is the Honorable Morley's response. Wish we had SA's like him in Illinois.
Dear John:
Thanks for your kind note.
As a matter of fact, even as a Missouri lawyer, I once prosecuted a Chicago policeman. He was staying at a local Holiday Inn, when a teenage boy (something of a jackass) went down the hallway pounding on each door and yelling. The police officer came out of his room, pulled a gun on the boy, and pushed him against a wall and put the gun to his face and told him he'd better quiet down.
That is not the way we do things in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I charged the cop with misdemeanor assault (putting someone in apprehension of immediate physical injury), and in spite of pleas that he might lose his job in Illinois if he pled guilty, I persevered until he finally pled guilty.
So, even here in my own county, I've had experience with bad judgement by an Illinois police officer.
Sincerely,
Morley

It's always been law -- you can't drink and carry a gun. But that Missouri law is about to get tougher. Under the new conceal and carry law going into effect October 11th, the crime goes from a misdemeanor to a felony. And the punishment will be up to four years in prison.
We are going to oppose probation on all these cases and seek jail time," says Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle. Swingle likes the section of Missouri's new conceal and carry law that says if you carry a gun while you're drunk, it's a felony. He's asking all sheriff's deputies and police in Cape and Jackson to funnel those cases to his office instead of municipal court, because his office can prosecute under the fullest extent of state law... which means up to four years in prison."If a person is thinking, 'Hey, I'm going out to the bars, or I'm going to a party where I'm going to be drinking, then leave that gun at home," Swingle emphasizes.
Police often pull someone over for drunk driving, then find a weapon in the car. That becomes a "count two" to a drunk driving offense... And prosecutors used to often agree to probation."But we're no going to do that anymore," states Swingle. "I see such a danger to all these weapons floating around out in the public by people who are drinking, that we're going to draw a line in the sand and say, if you possess a weapon while drunk, you're going to go to jail in Cape Girardeau County."

To all who are committed to conceal carry.
I used to live a small town in Illinois. The people down their are getting a prison or some other economical state or federal buildings in the near future. This area of Illinois is under a lot of watch and scrutiny and any and all support for conceal carry in Illinois is and will be heard more down there then anywhere else in Illinois due to how much the Illinois state government and representatives are watching what is going on down their that if we start talking and posting forums in those towns about conceal carry that we just might get the jump on getting conceal carry moving a lot faster.

Ron Bond sends this to us from his Atomic Lookout Ranch in Bisbee, AZ. BTW: Happy Birthday Ron!
Prevent special crimes - A.R.S. § 13-411
You may threaten or use both physical force and deadly physical force against another to the extent you reasonably believe that such force is immediately necessary to prevent the other's commission of arson of an occupied structure [of your home], burglary in the second or first degree [of your home], kidnapping, manslaughter, second or first degree murder, sexual conduct with a minor, sexual assault, child molestation, armed robbery, or aggravated assault. You will be presumed to be acting reasonably if you are acting to prevent the commission of any of the foregoing offenses. You have no duty to retreat before threatening or using deadly physical force to prevent these special crimes (A.R.S. § 13-411).
Note: Although A.R.S. § 13-411 contains no limitations or even reference to residence or home, the courts have construed it to apply to threatened arson or burglary of one's residence. The declaration of policy which accompanied the passage of this law by the Arizona legislature states that "The legislature finds that homes of Arizona residents are being burglarized and violated at an alarming rate that is endangering the residents' safety, health and property, thereby depriving them of their safe and peaceful enjoyment of their homes." The statement of policy continues, "It is the legislative intent to establish a policy by this law giving notice to all citizens, law enforcement personnel and the state courts that a person's home, its contents and the residents therein shall be totally respected and protected in Arizona, and that the law enforcement officials and courts shall apply this and all other applicable criminal laws relating to the protection of the home and its residents promptly and severely so as to restore the total sanctity of the home in Arizona." This legislative intent is bolstered by the reference to first and second degree burglary, i.e., armed and unarmed burglary of a residence, respectively.
Note: Burglary of an occupied motel room has been ruled to fall within this justification defense. A.R.S. § 13-1507(A) & (7); State v. Gardella, 156 Ariz. 340, 342, 751 P.2d 1000, 1002 (Ariz. App. 1988); State v. Hussain, 249 Ariz. Adv. Rep. 6 (App. 1997). In other words, you may defend against a burglary of your temporary "home" in a motel, etc.

Police say the suspect walked into a southwest store on Gasmer near Chimney Rock on Friday night and shot 35- year-old Mohammed Rahman who was working behind the counter.

Here is an idea of what this conservative thinks is good public policy:
We institute roadblocks and mandatory license checks on notorious roadways on party-hearty Saturday nights. And, of course, we punish the violators.

COUNTER DEMONSTRATORS CARRY SQUIRT GUNS TO SHOW THE DANGERS OF CCW!
Cincinnati marchers carry guns
Seek to overturn ban on concealed weapons
CINCINNATI - With guns holstered at their sides, about 50 people marched down neighborhood sidewalks on Sunday to draw attention to their effort to allow people to carry concealed weapons in Ohio.
About eight counterdemonstrators followed closely, carrying signs with anti-gun messages. One read, ``I'm carrying a concealed weapon right now,'' with an arrow pointing to the demonstrator's squirt gun.
Police cruisers occasionally passed by to observe both groups walking calmly and staying on the sidewalks in a neighborhood on the city's north side.

LOOKS LIKE MISSOURI IS GOING TO MAKE THIS AS DIFFICULT AS POSSIBLE
Metro can keep guns off trains, buses
Metro bus and light-rail passengers won't be able to carry concealed guns on the Missouri half of the transit system after Oct. 11 despite changes in state gun laws.
The agency's top lawyer said last week that the state's concealed weapons law won't trump existing regulations that forbid the public from bringing guns, knives or other weapons onto transit property.
"We can legally ban any handguns from any facility" or any light-rail vehicle, bus or Call-A-Ride van, said Metro General Counsel Celeste Vossmeyer.
The agency sought outside legal opinion after the Missouri Legislature passed the measure in a veto session this month. It turns out that a 1993 law passed in both Missouri and Illinois already bans firearms in agency facilities and vehicles.

Kansas lobbyists hope to push concealed weapons bill to lawmakers
TOPEKA, Kan. - Supporters of concealed weapons have set their sites on Kansas and plan to ask lawmakers to consider a gun bill next year, said Phil Journey, president of the Kansas State Rifle Association.
Supporters have drawn strength from the Missouri General Assembly's recent passage of a concealed-gun law over the veto of Gov. Bob Holden, Journey said.
"I think it will help me tremendously with our grassroots efforts," said Journey, of Wichita.
In 1997 lawmakers in Topeka passed a concealed-gun bill. Then-Gov. Bill Graves killed the measure with a veto. Nothing much happened afterward......

LIFE WITH CONCEAL CARRY IN MN
MINNEAPOLIS — When the upset customer threw the menu in his face, restaurant owner Thomas Pham stood fast.
Like it or not, he insisted, guns were not permitted in Azia, a popular nightspot in the hip Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis.
“I just told him that's the way it is; we have a business to run,” Pham said.
As usual, the gun control crowd just can't or won't see the entire picture.

CONCEAL CARRY: IMPACT ON OHIO?
Study backs hidden guns against crime
COLUMBUS - For Lynn Wachtmann, Ohio’s failure to adopt a law allowing law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns can be measured in flesh and blood, and the pain of crime victims.
"It’s heart-wrenching to see the number of Ohioans who are being victimized while some continue to play politics," said Mr. Wachtmann, a Republican state senator from Napoleon.
Mr. Wachtmann partially based his statement on research by David Mustard, an associate professor of economics at the University of Georgia. A gun rights group, Ohioans for Concealed Carry, hired Mr. Mustard to estimate what would happen if Ohio becomes the 46th state with a "conceal carry" law.

The Moberly Monitor
During the 2003 veto session, the General Assembly voted to override Gov. Holden's veto on House Bill 349, which paved the way for law abiding citizens to carry a concealed firearm. ' There has been a tremendous amount of effort put in by the Missouri Sheriffs Association to ensure that permits are issued in a lawful manner,' James Vermeersch, executive director of the Missouri Sheriffs Association said, 'It is important that all Missourians wishing to obtain a permit follow the procedure set forth by the Association so that permits can be issued in an organized and uniform way."

"It is wrong – and it is a misuse of the civil-justice system – to try to punish honest, law-abiding people for illegal acts committed by others without their knowledge or involvement. That's not the way we do things in America."

POLICE SEEK GUN THIEFS
DenverPost
Police intensified their search Saturday for the people who swiped a cache of firearms from a Frederick gun shop a day earlier.
"Anytime you have that many weapons out on the street, there is a great concern for the safety of citizens and fellow officers," said Gregg Lotspeich, a spokesman for the Frederick Police Department.
Someone broke down the front door of the High Country Gunsmithing shop between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Friday, police said.
This is probably the gun manufacturers fault. Better sue them.

BUSH SAYS TEENS MORE LIKELY TO DIE FROM GUNSHOP WOUNDS
Kids with Guns
"A teenager is more likely to die from a gunshot than from all natural causes of death combined." That statement is from President Bush, in his opening words on the Web site of the federal program "Project Safe Neighborhoods."
I have to wonder how accurate that statement is. Natural causes might be the key there.
NOTE FROM JOHN: I too find the President's statement suspect. However if one analyzed this by race I am certain one would find teen rate of death from gun shots to be highly correlative depending on your race. I am trying to say, in a nice way, if you factor out blacks you probably would find the statistic not nearly as alarming. Hope that was not a bad thing to say.

MISOURRI LAW ENFORCEMENT SAYS: MOTORISTS WITH GUNS IN CARS DON'T NEED PERMIT
JEFFERSON CITY - A motorist transporting a concealed weapon in a car should advise police officers of that fact in the event the driver is pulled over on the highway.
That's the advice from the Missouri Highway Patrol as law enforcement officers and motorists prepare to deal with the concealed weapons law that goes into effect Oct. 11. While the law sets up a permit system for people to carry hidden guns on their person, it also allows anyone over 21 years of age who lawfully owns a weapon to carry it concealed in the driver's compartment of their vehicle without a permit.
